Cause and Effect Essay

Hello everyone and welcome to Megat Nazhif Blog. J. For today’s class our class learnt how to write a cause and effect essay. Before we start writing the cause and effect essay, Miss Zu divides us into a group. Then she asked each group to write an essay about the video that she a shown to us and asked us to distribute the task equally. This essay that our group wrote:

English is can be considered as Lingua Franca in verse as our second native language in Malaysia other than Malay language. English language is very important to Malaysian because we use it in our daily life such as when we want to communicate with peoples that different countries and mostly being used at job interviews when we seeking a job in the best company and applying course at the best universities. If you are not study English very well, you cannot speak the language fluently and definitely you will use broken English when communicate with others. Although Malaysia people can understand and know English, but some of them tend to use broken English rather than perfect English due to lack of pronunciations, less exposure towards English native language as well as depends too much on mother tongue.

The consequences of broken English are they depend too much on their mother tongue. Many culture in a world, they more prefer and comfortable to speak on their language when communicate with other people. Some of they feel speak with their own language or depend on mother tongue will help them to publish their language to other people especially to the tourist. On the other side, they don't want to feel bother in learn the other language especially English, so that they more prefer use to their own culture language.

Thus the effect that they don't know behind their depending on their mother tongue is they are failing to use English appropriately when they are communicating with other people. According to David Crystal,(1995),English is the one diplomacy and international language are used in many country. Therefore, it does prove that English really important to communicate with other people especially in business. So that they have to learn English for improve their life. As the result, they will more easier to communicate with other people. 

Broken English is caused by pronunciation that several people might use. They tend to use their own accent in their conversation. Malaysia is well known as a country that has many cultures and races. Therefore there is a lot of enunciation among Malaysian that will lead to diverse pronunciation. As an example, Kelantan is the most renowned region that used their mother tongue frequently. They habitually convert their accent in English language. Hence, pronunciation is the causes of broken English.

The effect of pronunciation is people especially youngsters in Malaysia will apparently pursue what elders saying and this may lead to confusion. Those who have not appropriately knowledge of English language skills will tend to follow what citizens verbalize. Thereupon, people in Malaysia will have a problem in communication among themselves because there is a misunderstand pronunciation in conversations.

Another cause of the broken English is less exposure to the native English. It is because we did not use the English language frequently.  As we know, people will use their own language for their conversation such as, Malay language, Chinese language, Tamil language and even Javanese. When they used their own language habitually, they will use less English language except when needed such as when having conversation with English teachers or lecturers. However, most of the time they spent is with their family and friends, not the teachers and lecturers. Automatically, they will use English language less rather than their conversation language with their family and friends.

                The effect of less exposure to the native English is having problems with the translation. When we use less English in our conversation, we will feel very awkward when suddenly we need to use English language. Then, we will automatically translate the meaning of the words from our language to the English language one by one. By that, we will use English language with the wrong grammar that will make the other person listening to our speaking cannot understand what we want to tell them. Automatically, it will make distraction to our conversation with the other people.

In conclusion, some Malaysian people intend to use broken English rather than perfect English because they lack in pronunciations skill when using English language, a lesser amount of exposure towards English native and they too much depend on their mother tongue. Nowdays , English has become the second language all around the world and broken English not accepted around the world. Thus, Malaysian people must take precaution step on broken English, so that they can learn a perfect English language and improving their English language skill. We should never take too lightly the usage of perfect English language.
